St. Francis of Assisi
Founder of the Franciscan Order

Born at Assisi, Italy in 1182
Feast Day October 4

Francis of Assisi was a poor little man who astounded and inspired the Church by taking the gospel literally, following all that Jesus said and did.

From the cross in the neglected field-chapel of San Damiano, Christ told him, “Francis, go and repair My house, which you see is falling down.”

Francis come back to his father´s shop, laded a horse with cloth and went to sell it.

Francis became the totally poor and humble workman, he abandoned a life of luxury for a life devoted to Christianity.

His evangelical zeal, consecration to poverty, charity, and personal carisma drew thousands of followers. Francis had a devotion to Jesus and a desire to follow him.

Francis echoed the theme of humility at every opportunity because it was in this way that Christ served his brothers and sisters, and it was in this way that Francis desired to serve.
